Tick Control and Flea Control:

Flea magnifiedFlea
Fleas and ticks may be getting smaller in size, but there are more of them, they eat more often, and they’re causing problems in what used to be the colder months.

There is a myth that fleas do not live in Colorado. But this is not true. Fleas live on both wildlife and pets, and once you have a flea infestation problem, it can be very hard to get rid of.

Once inside, fleas like to live in carpet, bedding, and furniture. If left untreated, fleas can bite your pet over 400 times per day, consuming more than its own weight of your pet’s blood, and lay hundreds of eggs no bigger than grains of sand on your pet and around your home. And, they can cause your pet to scratch himself incessantly and give your pet tapeworm or other diseases. And after you’ve treated your pet, fleas may turn to feasting on you as they look for blood to ingest.

Meanwhile, ticks live in underbrush and can live on both pets and humans. They like to hide and embed in the folds of the body such as under arms or the softer neck area. They feed of the host and then fall off to lay anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 eggs. They are dangerous because they can pass along to your pet and you various diseases. Colorado Tick Fever is the most commonly diagnosed tick-borne illness in Colorado. In addition, Tularemia, Q-fever, Rocky Mountain Spotted-Fever, Lyme disease, and Tick-Borne Relapsing Fever have been also been reported in Colorado.

If normal precautions have not worked to keep fleas and ticks at bay, and you find yourself with a serious tick or flea infestation problem, don’t hesitate to call Parker Pest Control Services for professional help.
